WAPDA Chairman Lieutenant General (Retd) Sajjad Ghani has stated that if India attempts to stop Pakistan’s water, the military option will be open. Speaking in Karachi, he emphasized that Pakistan will fully defend its water rights and considers stopping water an act of war.
He added that India has limited capability to stop water on the Chenab and Indus rivers and would require significant capacity and time to do so. Ghani stressed that Pakistan will thwart India’s intentions and if an attempt is made to stop Pakistan’s water, the military option will be open.
This statement comes amid growing tensions between India and Pakistan over water issues, with Pakistan accusing India of attempting to block its rivers’ water and India providing explanations.
The water dispute between the two countries is centered around India’s River Linking Project, which aims to divert the Brahmaputra River and other rivers. Pakistan believes this will reduce water flow into its rivers, affecting agriculture and other sectors.
